Summary

Eurasia Foundation is seeking a communications assistant to support our strategic communications activities. The assistant will report to the senior communications and knowledge management officer and work closely with programmatic and business development teams, providing social media, editorial, design, and administrative support, and assist with special projects and events. This person plays a key role in executing a communications strategy that grows and engages our audiences as well as tells our story.
The position requires a minimum commitment of 40 hours a week. 

This is an exciting opportunity for an early-career international development communications professional to work collaboratively with a mission-driven organization supporting international development work in Europe, Eurasia, the Middle East, and Asia. You will have the opportunity to own projects, grow and share your knowledge, and help shape how EF tells its story.

Duties

  • Coordinate content development and dissemination with program and business development teams to share EF program highlights and promote organizational awareness acorss channels. Communications products may include social media campaigns, newsletters, feature stories, fact sheets, videos, annual report, web copy, and project documentation such as presentations and reports.
  • Manage social media platforms
  • Build relationships with program staff and audiences to identify and develop regular, compelling storytelling content to help demonstrate programs’ progress and success through local and international channels including blog, social media, newsletter, and web content.
  • Work with program teams on program-level communications
  • Help to manage external vendors and consulting contracts for variety of communications support services, including graphic design, video production, and writer/editors. 
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of outreach strategies for major milestones, including social media, publications, and video.
  • Seek opportunities, priority events, and platforms to reach target audiences and stakeholders in relevant thematic areas.
  • Measure and track communications analytics for social media, newsletters, and website.
  • Support the planning and execution of EF’s large-scale public events, including event communications and logistics.
  • Help coordinate events for EF’s Young Professionals Network.
  • Monitor news outlets and partners for relevant regional news and events.
  • Assist with proposal development, including formatting, editing and research tasks, as needed.
  • Perform general administrative work, as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, international development, marketing, or related field required
  • At least one year of strategic communications experience, required
  • Digital and social media experience, demonstrated ability to write engagingly and apply best practices required 
  • International development and/or nonprofit experience preferred
  • Excellent writing, research, and organizational skills required
  • Editorial experience and familiarity with AP and/or other styles strongly preferred
  • Strong computer proficiency and experience using MS Office required
  • Experience with design and creative tools preferred: Adobe Creative Cloud (particularly InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop), HMTL, Drupal, video production and editing
  • Must be a self-starter able to work independently, manage multiple projects with strong attention to detail, and meet deadlines
  • Familiarity with the countries of the former Soviet Union and/or the Middle East and North Africa and knowledge of Russian and/or Arabic language are strongly preferred. 
  • Demonstrated interest in international development and desire to develop a career with an international nonprofit a plus
