Andrew J. Guff is managing director and founding principal of Siguler, Guff & Company, an asset management firm that manages both domestic and international private equity funds on behalf of corporate and state pension plans, university endowments, family trusts and other financial institutions. Siguler, Guff & Company was formerly the Private Equity Group of Mitchell Hutchins Asset Management, which was purchased by Messrs. Siguler & Guff in 1995.
Prior to founding Siguler Guff & Company and while at the U.S. investment firm PaineWebber Incorporated, Mr. Guff established Russia Partners Company, LP, the first major private equity fund investing in Russia. His previous experience included working for PaineWebbers Merchant Banking Group, where he was engaged in structuring and managing investments on behalf of the firm. His responsibilities included corporate restructuring and workouts and monitoring the operations and performance of PaineWebbers portfolio investments. Mr. Guff also worked in PaineWebbers Mergers and Acquisitions Department for four years.
Mr. Guff is a trustee of CEC International Partners, a non-profit organization that supports culture and environmental causes in Russia. He also serves as a trustee of the Institute for the Recruitment of Teachers (IRT), a program that prepares minority college students for careers in teaching.
Mr. Guff earned a B.A. in Economics from Harvard University in 1983. He was a student at Leningrad State University in 1981 and speaks Russian.
