Communications Officer

Under the supervision of the president, the communications officer is responsible for developing and implementing a communications strategy that supports the organizations overall strategy. Activities may include identifying target audiences and objectives, creatively documenting the impact of Eurasia Foundation’s programs, managing and creating content for EF’s website and social media channels, developing electronic and print publications, drafting and distributing announcements, contributing to the planning and delivery of EF public events.


  • Manage all aspects of strategic communications
  • Lead in developing creative ways to document the impact of Eurasia Foundations programs, including written and video
  • Prepare the annual communications plan as part of EF’s larger annual operating plan
  • Maintain and promote EF’s identity guidelines internally
  • Produce and distribute feature stories, blog posts, organizational news, event announcements, and other electronic publications
  • Coordinate communications efforts with projects
  • Develop and implement a social media strategy and reporting appropriate for the organization and following social media trends and best practices
  • Support EF’s public events, including producing communications products tailored to those events
  • Manage EF’s website in accordance with maintenance and update plans; update information and improve site design, as appropriate; monitor and report on website analytics
  • With guidance from the business development department, support the production of technical collateral and capability statements for outreach efforts
  • Produce EF’s annual report and contribute to other external and internal reports
  • Maintain a library of EF print products
  • Other duties as assigned by the president


  • Education:  Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required; Master's degree is preferred.
  • Experience: Must be a self-starter with a passion for storytelling. Minimum 5 years relevant experience required, including developing original website content. Superior writing and editing skills required. Ability to manage multiple projects and successfully meet deadlines while quickly producing high quality work is essential. Press, events, publications, photography, video production and/or editing, and vendor management experience highly desirable.
  • Software Skills Required: advanced Office 365; Adobe Creative Cloud (including InDesign and Photoshop), MailChimp, and WordPress.
  • Other:  Previous civil society program experience in the former Soviet Union or the Middle East is desirable. Russian, Arabic, or Persian language ability desirable.
