Turkmenistan: Social Media Marketing Coordinator

Eurasia Foundation (EF), a US non-profit organization promoting civil society development and good governance, is accepting applications for a Social Media Marketing Coordinator (SMM Coordinator) for the Civil Society Support Program in Central Asia (CSSP). Funded by the United States Agency for International Development, the purpose of CSSP is to cultivate a vibrant and responsive citizen-oriented civil society in Central Asia.

The SMM Coordinator is a four-month, part-time (anticipated 12 to 14 hours/week) consultancy with possible extension. The SMM Coordinator will be responsible for the promotion of civil society organization (CSO) activities through outreach, content development and content management across the IMO social media and traditional media platforms (e.g., Turkmenportal, Infoabad, Arzuw News, InAshgabat), as well as effective communication among CSOs. The target audience for these activities are international donors, state institutions, CSOs, youth in Turkmenistan and the public at large.


The SMM Coordinator will work under the direct supervision of the CSSP Country Coordinator for Turkmenistan and, when it is necessary, in close collaboration with CSSP regional technical experts based in Almaty to perform the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a social media strategy and monthly plans with schedules of publications
  • Prepare high-quality communication materials (text, infographics, photos) about civil society, its principles, role and value for society, news about CSOs and other aspects
  • Develop a calendar of international and local dates and holidays that are relevant to civil society and prepare content accordingly
  • Maintain a regular, twice weekly schedule for posting content on social media (IMO obligatory, others desired)
  • Research characteristics of civil society in the country and abroad
  • Remain informed about audience interests by maintaining ongoing communication with followers and responding to questions in a timely manner
  • Analyze feedback on posted content and followers’ interests and adjust the SMM approaches accordingly
  • Analyze and report on a weekly basis about analytics of posted information
  • Collaborate with other SMM specialists and bloggers
  • Recommend new features in CSSP’s SMM to increase its effectiveness


  • At least four years of experience in SMM, content development or other relevant activities (e.g., preparing social media or blog posts)
  • Deep knowledge of civil society development, youth empowerment, advocacy and policymaking
  • Knowledge of civil society issues, relevant civil society actors and the political/social context across Central Asia
  • Experience as a member or a volunteer of a CSO. Current engagement in CSO activities preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area of study (e.g., journalism, public relations, marketing, philology, education, international relations, social development)
  • Completed courses and training in SMM or copywriting
  • Excellent writing skills in Turkmen and Russian required
  • Good command of Microsoft Office programs (e.g., Word, Excel, SharePoint)
