The Honorable Andras Simonyi

Ambassador (retired); Senior Fellow, Atlantic Council

Ambassador Andras Simonyi is a former Hungarian diplomat living in Washington, DC. He is an economist by training and holds a PhD in Political Science. He was Hungary's first ambassador to NATO (1999-2001) and later ambassador to the United States (2002-2007). He has extensive experience with the European Union institutions and is an expert on the Nordic countries. He is presently with the George Washington University's School of Engineering and Applied Science and a Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council of the United States. He works primarily on issues of energy and climate, democracy. Previously he was the Managing Director of the SAIS Center for Transatlantic Relations (2012-2017). He has authored numerous studies on transatlantic relations, soft-power and democracy. He writes in several outlets and is a frequent commentator on TV. His book "Rocking Toward a Free World" was published recently in the U.S.
