Conflicts in Eurasia Panel Discussion

Eurasia Foundation’s panel discussion, moderated by David Ignatius of The Washington Post, at the Embassy of Finland on February 3, highlighted the strategic importance of the Caucasus and Central Asia regions for the major international challenges faced by the U.S. – from energy security to arms proliferation to trafficking and terrorism.
Recent conflicts in the Caucasus and Central Asia have taken the U.S. by surprise because this important region is often overlooked, said top U.S. experts at the panel discussion. Here Dr. Fiona Hill of Brookings Institution looks at the need for international engagement in Central Asia, which she says has too often been “nobody’s backyard.”
